Foundations

OPTION 1: FOUNDATION BLOCKS

These blocks are laid onto a mortar bed in the normal manner on a concrete foundation. They offer a labour saving alternative to a traditional foundation because the size of the block gives the choice of forming either a 285mm or 300mm wide solid foundation wall, from a single leaf of blockwork. Thus removing the need to create a cavity or use wallties and reducing the quantity of mortar used. Strength, combined with lightweight block, ensure foundation walls can be built fast, strong, safe and economically.

OPTION 2: TRADITIONAL FOUNDATION

Two skins of blockwork, usually 100mm Intercrete or Interlyte 7N laid in the normal manner onto concrete foundation.

The cavity width would be set out to accommodate the wall as required in the superstructure, the leaves would be tied and the cavity filled with a lean mix concrete.

The top of the foundation level should be accurately set to achieve full block coursing up to DPC or ground floor level.

Blocks allow for fast on site working one block is equivalent to six bricks.
